Teen Dating Violence Prevention Committee

We want to help prevent teen dating violence before it starts. Break the cycle!

That’s the message the Governor’s Youth Commission (GYC) wants everyone to hear. Among high school students who date, 21% of females and 10% of males experience physical and or sexual dating violence, but many teens do not report it because they are afraid to tell friends and family. Through peer-to-peer education, the GYC will emphasize to preteens and teens the importance of learning skills to form positive relationships with others. During Teen Dating Violence awareness month in February, we will be utilizing the power of a social media campaign using hashtags #orangeforlove, and #teenDVmonth on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook. We will also be distributing orange ribbons, t-shirts, and other items around our schools to bring awareness and promote respect and healthy relationships. Our ultimate goal is to stop dating violence before it starts and to promote healthy relationships that can last into adulthood.
