OUR MISSION & HISTORY

Established in 1989, the Governor’s Youth Commission (GYC) is a diverse body of Arizona’s high school students composed of members from all across the state. The purpose of the GYC is to engage youth through innovative programs, events and campaigns that effectively serve their communities in areas that are most meaningful to them. The Governor’s Youth Commission is housed in the Governor's Office of Youth, Faith and Family.

PAST IMPACT: BY THE NUMBERS

The GYC consists of fifty-one high school sophomores, juniors and seniors from all fifteen counties. Youth will be working to take the lead in mobilizing their peers to bring about positive change.

Governor's Youth Commission making a difference in Arizona

Several GYC members had the opportunity to create substance abuse public service announcements (PSA) with COX Studios. The PSA's will be shown in middle schools, high schools and on COX TV throughout the state.

Global Youth Service Day April 2015

The Governor's Youth Commission helped lead the state of Arizona to ranking number one in the world in youth lead service projects during the 27th annual Global Youth Service Day April 2015.

Youth Leadership Day engaged 244 high school students from across the state for a day of networking, leadership development workshops and time to celebrate their accomplishments around Global Youth Service Day.
